Jatinangor, September 09, 2024 – An atmosphere of pride and nostalgia filled the office of the Manager for Academic, Student, and Alumni Affairs at the Faculty of Geological Engineering (FGE). Dikky Surahman, S.T., an alumnus from the Class of 2020 who successfully completed his studies on schedule in 2024, returned to his alma mater to share his remarkable journey in an exclusive interview.
Meeting with the Manager for Academic, Student, and Alumni Affairs, Mr. Reza Mohammad Ganjar Gani, S.T., M.T., Daffa recounted how the Bidikmisi scholarship program served as a golden bridge for him to achieve his dream of becoming a Bachelor of Engineering in Geology.
Mr. Reza Mohammad Ganjar Gani began the conversation by expressing his immense pride. “Here at the faculty, we are not just celebrating Daffa as a graduate, but also as a testament to the success of the Bidikmisi program and our commitment to inclusive education,” he stated. “Dikky’s story represents the fighting spirit and incredible potential that our students possess.”
Daffa, who comes from a family with limited financial means, shared the story of his initial struggles. “At first, the thought of university expenses, especially for the laboratory work and field trips that are hallmarks of Geological Engineering, made me pessimistic,” Dikky recalled. “However, learning about the Bidikmisi scholarship gave me a glimmer of hope. I was determined to fight as hard as I could to qualify.”
His hope became a reality. Being accepted into the Geological Engineering program as a Bidikmisi scholarship recipient for the 2020 intake was a turning point in his life.
“Without Bidikmisi, my journey would have been vastly different; I might not have made it this far,” Dikky expressed sincerely. “The scholarship covered all my tuition fees and provided a living allowance. This gave me the peace of mind to focus 100% on my studies, be active in the student association, and participate in every field activity without burdening my family back home.”
Throughout his four years of study, Dikky proved that the trust placed in him by the state and the faculty was well-founded. He consistently demonstrated outstanding academic performance, ultimately graduating with Cum Laude honors in 2024.
“Dikky’s success is a source of collective pride and a true inspiration to his juniors. He has shown that one’s economic background is not a barrier to achieving the highest honors when combined with hard work, integrity, and a strong sense of responsibility,” added Mr. Reza.
Now, as an alumnus, Dikky is ready to step into the professional world and contribute to the nation. He shared a powerful message for students facing similar challenges.
“To my friends and juniors, never feel insecure about your circumstances. Make use of every facility and opportunity available. Prove that you are worthy of this trust by studying diligently and graduating on time. Remember, this scholarship is both a right and a great responsibility,” he concluded with enthusiasm.
Dikky Surahman’s story reaffirms that investing in education is the most effective way to break the cycle of poverty and cultivate superior human resources for the future of Indonesia.
