The Faculty of Geological Engineering, Universitas Padjadjaran (FTG Unpad), has implemented a series of community service and applied research programs to support sustainable agriculture and strengthen local food security.
As part of these initiatives, FTG Unpad provides local farmers with access to appropriate agricultural technologies, soil and water testing laboratories, as well as innovative research products, including biofertilizers and natural pesticides. Farmers also receive hands-on training through demonstration plots, greenhouses, and production units managed by the faculty, enabling direct application of new methods in the field.
These programs accelerate the transfer of knowledge and technology from campus to farming communities, bridging the gap between academics and practitioners. Through collaboration among lecturers, students, and farmers, the initiative is designed to enhance agricultural productivity, improve product quality, and promote environmentally friendly practices.
In addition, FTG Unpad opens its facilities to provide continuous technical assistance to farmers, helping reduce dependence on costly and environmentally harmful conventional inputs. The program reflects FTG Unpad’s commitment to empowering local communities, supporting regional food resilience, and contributing to the achievement of Sustainable Development Goal 2 (SDG 2), particularly in technology access and agricultural capacity-building.
Examples of FTG Unpad’s contributions include implementation of efficient durian harvesting techniques and conservation-based livestock housing systems, distribution of superior plant varieties such as hanjeli, red ginger, citronella, orchids, and black rice, utilization of university laboratories for product quality testing and farmer training in food processing based on geodiversity, and field-based training and demonstration activities involving farmers and rural communities.
