The Faculty of Geological Engineering, Universitas Padjadjaran (FTG Unpad), continues to strengthen its commitment to community service by implementing a series of educational outreach programs. In line with Sustainable Development Goal (SDG) 4 on quality and inclusive education, these initiatives aim to provide communities with relevant knowledge and practical skills through accessible non-formal education.
FTG Unpad students and faculty members actively participated in workshops, training sessions, and field-based learning activities. One highlight was the organic waste composting workshop, which introduced communities to the use of biopore holes for processing household waste into compost, creating valuable fertilizer for agriculture.
In Banjaran, agricultural outreach programs offered training for local farming groups on sustainable farming practices, soil management, and crop optimization. Similar capacity-building sessions in other regions focused on organic fertilizer production, entrepreneurship, and financial literacy for farmers and micro-enterprises.
The faculty also carried out disaster risk reduction initiatives, including a comprehensive program in Banyuresmi that trained communities on geological hazard assessment and preparedness. Additional disaster preparedness training in Pangandaran and Sumedang equipped residents with knowledge of hazard mapping, evacuation procedures, and response strategies for earthquakes and landslides.
By adopting a participatory and community-centered approach, FTG Unpad not only raises awareness of geological, environmental, and technological issues but also strengthens community resilience. At the same time, these initiatives provide students with valuable experiential learning opportunities, fostering leadership, social responsibility, and practical skills beyond the classroom.
