SUMEDANG – The Faculty of Geological Engineering, Universitas Padjadjaran (FTG Unpad) has successfully carried out a community service program focused on strengthening local economies and promoting sustainable development. The initiative supported the achievement of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), particularly in poverty reduction and local economic empowerment.
Implemented in Pangandaran and Sukabumi, the program combined entrepreneurship training, product marketing workshops, and financial management education. Participants also received small business grants to establish household and community-based enterprises.
In addition to skills training, the program reinforced the role of village cooperatives, MSME groups, and Village-Owned Enterprises (BUMDes), aiming to improve production efficiency and expand marketing networks. Community members actively engaged in the activities, including environmental initiatives such as beehive installation projects that support biodiversity while creating economic value.
“This program goes beyond knowledge transfer by providing practical skills and access to resources,” said the program coordinator. “It enables local communities to build sustainable businesses and reduce long-term dependence on external aid.”
Through active collaboration between faculty members, students, and local residents, the initiative generated solutions tailored to community needs. The program highlights FTG Unpad’s commitment to inclusivity and partnership as essential principles in achieving sustainable development.
This community service program not only delivered tangible benefits to local communities but also strengthened the role of academics in advancing SDGs at the grassroots level.
