History

Established in 1959 as the Department of Geology under the auspices of the Faculty of Exact and Natural Sciences, Universitas Padjadjaran, with the main founders: Major General (Ret.) Prof. Dr. Moestopo and Drs. M. Koesmono.

The activity officially started on November 17, 1959 with 17 students. The activities are fostered by permanent lecturers, namely Drs. Koesmono and three extraordinary lecturers, namely Dr. S. Sartono, Drs. R. Soeria-Atmadja and Drs. S. Asikin.

In 1995 based on the SK Dikti there were two study programs, namely the Geological Engineering Study Program and the Geology Study Program under the auspices of the Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences. Then it was combined back into only one study program, namely Geological Engineering. Since December 12, 2007, The Department of Geological Engineering from the Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences developed itself into the Faculty of Geological Engineering.

Until now, the Faculty of Geological Engineering UNPAD has received high trust and recognition from the public. This is indicated by the number of students and the number of graduates increasing every year.

Faculty of Geological Engineering, Padjadjaran University, is a higher education institution that devotes to learning and development of geological science that is oriented to the creation of a link & match pattern (compatibility and equivalence). FTG provides postgraduate education in Geological Engineering Study Program (S2) in accordance with the permission of the Directorate General of Higher Education no, 1688/D/T/2009 which was extended in 2011.

Since 2011 FTG has held the Geological Engineering Doctoral Program in accordance with the Decree of the Minister of National Education no. 101/E/O/2011. The management of master’s and doctoral programs in fields related to geology was previously carried out by the Postgraduate Program of the University of Padjadjaran.

On March 21, 2017, the Faculty of Geological Engineering obtained the accreditation of a higher education institution “Accredited with A Rank” from the National Accreditation Board for Higher Education.
