Lecturers from the Faculty of Geological Engineering, Universitas Padjadjaran (FTG Unpad), carried out a Community Service Program (PPM) titled “Education and Conservation Socialization of Geosites in the Belitung UNESCO Global Geopark Area”. The program took place in East Belitung Regency, Bangka Belitung Islands.
The initiative aimed to enhance public awareness of the importance of conserving geosites as part of the region’s geological and cultural heritage. It also emphasized sustainable geosite management to support both conservation efforts and the development of geotourism in the UNESCO Global Geopark area.
The series of activities included meetings with local government representatives and community members, field visits to Gunung Lumut Geosite and other conservation areas, educational sessions on geodiversity and geomorphosites, as well as a scientific poster presentation entitled “Assessment of Geomorphosites and Anthropogenic Landform in Developing of Geosite Area and Geoconservation Site in Belitung Island Geopark, Indonesia”.
The participation of FTG Unpad lecturers in this program reflects the faculty’s strong commitment to community engagement, conservation, and applied research. By combining scientific knowledge with local involvement, the program contributes to strengthening Belitung’s status as a UNESCO Global Geopark while promoting sustainable regional development.
